What Is a Graph?

A graph is a visual way of representing information. Instead of reading a long list of numbers, a graph can show how values are related and make patterns easier to notice. In Class 8 Mathematics, students learn to work with coordinates, axes, tables and simple graphs. The Cartesian Plane

The coordinate plane is formed by two number lines that cross at the origin. The horizontal line is called the x-axis and the vertical line is called the y-axis. Their intersection is the origin, written as (0, 0). A point is located by using an ordered pair. The first number tells the horizontal movement and the second number tells the vertical movement.

How to Plot a Point

To plot (3, 4), begin at the origin. Move three units horizontally in the positive x direction. Then move four units vertically in the positive y direction. Mark the point and label it if required.
